Charles Montegriffo’s MBE has been formally forfeited following his conviction and 14-year sentence for sexual offences against children.

The Governor formally notified Mr Montegriffo of the decision.

The forfeiture was published in the London Gazette on October 1st, following consideration by the Honours Forfeiture Committee and a recommendation by the Prime Minister to the King.

Mr Montegriffo was appointed an MBE in the 2007 New Year Honours.

His honour has now been cancelled and annulled, and his name removed from the Register of the Order.

The Governor formally notified him during a visit to Prison, accompanied by Justice Minister Nigel Feetham.

Mr Montegriffo has since returned his insignia to Buckingham Palace and can no longer use the letters MBE.

Mr Feetham says protecting victims and the public must remain the Government’s priority.

The Chief Minister says the decision reflects the seriousness of offences against children and the importance of maintaining the integrity of the honours system.

He says the Government’s thoughts remain with the victims.
