Former Senior Adviser on Distributed Ledger Technology Sian Jones is suing the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission for up to half a million pounds.
Ms Jones was the chief architect of Gibraltar’s DLT legislative framework, which launched in January 2018, making Gibraltar one of the first jurisdictions in the world to introduce legislation in the sector.
The breach of contract claim has been brought by Coinsult Limited, as the first claimant, and Sian Jones, as the second.
Ms Jones began working part-time for the GFSC in 2016, and full-time from November 2017.
According to the Commission, the launch of Gibraltar’s DLT framework brought worldwide recognition and significant interest to the jurisdiction, with the regulator describing itself as a “first mover” in the field.
However, the claim issued at the Supreme Court on 4th September 2025 states that Ms Jones’ contract was terminated early, in September 2019.
The claimants allege:
Wrongful termination of the agreement before its contractual expiry, with Coinsult Limited claiming a sum equal to 50% of the balance of the monthly remuneration that would otherwise have been payable.
Failure to pay Coinsult Limited £30,250 a month for July and August 2019, totalling £60,500.
Failure to provide pension contributions for the benefit of Ms Jones at a rate of 10% of the sums payable, together with consequential losses representing either the value of those contributions and their growth to retirement age, or the annuity she would have received, whichever produces the higher recovery.
The claim is valued at more than £300,000 but less than £500,000.
Sian Jones stood with Together Gibraltar in the October 2019 General Election, and she also co-founded XRegConsulting, a crypto regulatory consultancy, that same year.
GBC contacted Ms Jones, who said: “After repeatedly asking what has happened to my pension, I was forced to take out legal proceedings.”
GBC also asked the GFSC for comment.
Sian Jones is represented by Nick Gomez of Gomez & Co.
