26 year old local man arrested on suspicion of assault

A 26 year old local man has been arrested on suspicion of assault after an incident at Varyl Begg.

The Royal Gibraltar Police deployed armed officers to the area on Friday afternoon after reports of a disturbance.

The victim was taken to hospital with injuries to their face, and suspected fractured ribs.

The investigation continues, with the RGP calling for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them, and asking the public not to share images or videos on social media or chat groups.

Owners of a barber shop in the area said they were on their way to the business when they came across an individual in obvious distress and covered in blood.

Speaking to GBC, they said they asked the individual if he needed help, called an ambulance and waited with him until it arrived and he was attended to by paramedics.

They said they wanted to make clear that neither they nor their business had been involved in any altercation.
