Rosia Bay development: negotiations continue with preferred bidder

The Government says negotiations are continuing with the preferred bidder for the future development of Rosia Bay and the AHQ building.

Five Expressions of Interest were received, with a preferred bidder appointed.

The Government says the proposal involves commercial, leisure and tourism-related activities - and not residential development.

The latest tender for the site marks the sixth since 1990.

Rosia Bay was transferred to the Government by the Ministry of Defence in 1990, and successive administrations have attempted to find a solution for the site.

The Government says any plans need to take account of heritage, environmental, public access, leisure, tourism and commercial considerations.

Meanwhile, questions remain over security measures announced for Rosia Bay earlier this summer.

The Government said CCTV cameras and motion-sensitive lighting would be installed at the site as part of increased security arrangements.

GBC asked whether these have now been installed and are operational, and whether they are intended as interim measures or will form part of the longer-term plans for Rosia Bay.

The Government has not responded to questions at the time of broadcast.
