'Very serious' incident at sea - Government & Convent working to determine facts

The Government and the Convent are working together with law enforcement agencies and the port to determine the facts of what they believe to be a potentially 'very serious' incident.

An ongoing operation at sea involving Gibraltar's law enforcement agencies has resulted in the arrest of a number of persons and the boarding and detention and seizure of a vessel by Customs. 

The Government has also received reports and videos showing a related incursion by a Guardia Civil vessel into British Gibraltar Territorial Waters which is suspected to relate to the same incident.

The incursion reported appears to involve the Guardia Civil vessel entering Port Waters and towing a small pleasure craft.  

GBC understands the two individuals detained by Customs have been released as they were found not to be involved in the incident. The RGP have arrested a local person. 

The situation is developing.  

The Government is expected to make a further statement when it knows the exact nature of the events.
