Fox population in Gibraltar believed to be 'stable'

A reminder to drivers, especially at night: keep your speed down, and keep an eye out for foxes and other wildlife on the road!

These images of a fox near the old Caleta Hotel site were recently captured by member of the Ornithological and Natural History Society, Morris Figueras.

In response to GBC questions, the Government said there have been recent reports of sightings from the East Side, Europa Point, Waterport, and the Upper Rock - adding that this suggests there's a "stable population" in Gibraltar.

Four foxes were run over last year - however, the Government says there have been no further reported incidents so far this year.

It says foxes are a crucial part of the ecosystem, as they help to control numbers of gulls and rats, as well as forming part of the Rock's biodiversity.
