The Chief Minister says the development of a major data centre near the Port will not require reclamation. Yesterday, the Government announced the creation of a £1.8 billion facility to be built by Pelagos Data Centres.

Fabian Picardo told GBC the planning process will identify how it will fit into the surrounding area, with full details expected in early 2026.

The Government's statement said the facilities are expected to be powered by a combination of renewable energy and LNG, with the aim of achieving net zero emissions by 2030.

It added the data centre will be powered independently of Gibraltar’s existing power grid; Christine Vasquez asked Fabian Picardo how.
